Is My Faith Broken?

Hey everybody,

Last Sunday we kicked off our new series “Outraged” where we began a conversation about how to respond with grace in an age of outrage. Last week we talked about our counter-cultural mission…as Jesus sent the disciples into the world, He is sending us into the world. We aren’t being sent into the world to shame it, shout it down, or to demand our rights, we have been sent in the same way Jesus was sent.

For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost. Luke 19:10

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.  Mark 10:45

Jesus came seeking those who were far from the Father, and He came to serve them in such a way that they would be drawn to the Father. In John 13, we watch as Jesus washes the feet of the disciples, and then He says to them, and to us:

And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. John 13:14-15

How has Jesus treated you?

Do that for others.

This week we shift our conversation to “counter-cultural kindness.” I feel as if I need to warn you. What we talk about this Sunday, almost no one does. Even those who love Jesus and say that they want to follow Him, they rarely live out what we will be talking about this Sunday. In fact, we rarely practice this with our spouses and closest friends, let alone those that infuriate us and have treated us badly.

The fact that followers of Jesus DON’T do this, may be one of the reasons many people have dismissed Jesus as irrelevant. It’s not that they don’t believe what Jesus taught, I think many people do. They just have never seen anyone PRACTICE what Jesus has taught. So, they assume that the teachings of Jesus are irrelevant because even those who say they follow Jesus don’t practice what He said.

Curious?

I hope you will join me this Sunday for a challenging message. I will be challenged right along with you. But let’s come prepared to hear what Jesus is saying to us, and let’s prepare to say YES to what Jesus calls us to.

Know this, I’m cheering for you and praying for you this week!
