A Groovy Easter

Hey everybody,

When was the last time you learned something new? If we’re all being transparent here, thanks to the mindless hours I spend scrolling on my phone – through what seems like an infinite number of reels – I feel like I learn something new almost every day. This question is probably easy for most of us to answer because of the amount of content – social media, podcasts, TV, etc. – that we consume on a regular basis.
What if we dig a bit deeper and ask ourselves when was the last time we learned something new about Jesus or the last time He taught us something new about our faith? Again, since we’re all being transparent here, there have been seasons of my life when I feel like I can go months or even years without one drop of “new” knowledge. I have been going to church and following Jesus for most of my life. I have read through the Bible in its entirety, attended countless sermons, listened to all the podcasts, and you can insert your preferred “spiritual” activity here. I can be “doing” the things, and I can “know” Jesus and still feel totally disconnected from my relationship with Him. Typically, this cycle continues until one day, it dawns on me: going through the motions doesn’t equate to learning or growing. True learning is not the same as absorbing information or mindlessly scrolling through reels. True learning, as revealed by Christ throughout our individual spiritual journeys, results in heart change. Heart change will impact our outward actions. Jesus teaches us through his Word, our experiences, and through the wisdom and insight of others. We read in Psalm 33:8 that the Lord longs to teach us, “The Lord says, ‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.’”

It should come as no surprise that just as the Christ follower learns, so does the Church. Believers Church is no exception, and I have had the privilege to participate in the learning journey through many seasons. The latest learning journey, you ask? Remember that one time we had a helicopter drop Easter eggs in the field across from the building, and TONS of people showed up….?  If this isn’t ringing a bell, this happened at the Believers Easter event in 2022. Since we’ve established we’re all being transparent here, it was a great idea in theory, buttttt it turned out to be a minor logistics catastrophe. Needless to say, the Great Helicopter Easter Egg Hunt of 2022 was an excellent opportunity for us to learn from our experiences.

Luckily, instead of throwing in the towel, Believers is hosting another egg hunt event this coming Sunday, April 2nd, following the 10:45 service. The theme is Groovy Easter. The Egg Hunt itself will take place inside the auditorium, which will be completely transformed to match the theme. Additional activities will also take place outside, including food trucks, inflatables, and crafts! We have created a schedule detailing the specific information for each age group’s specific egg hunt time, beginning at 12:30. This schedule can be found on the registration link on all our social media platforms and the website. While I can’t promise this event will be without any hiccups, we do feel confident that this will be an event you don’t want to miss! It is also a fantastic opportunity to invite your family, friends, and neighbors to join you for the Sunday worship experience. And you never know, Jesus might even teach you something new through participating in this event!

I look forward to seeing you all there.
