Church Fam,
I have a confession…I often have a "what's in it for me?" attitude. It's something I've been working on for years. Yet, it continues to creep in occasionally – far more often than I care to admit. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm the only one needing constant attitude adjustment in this area. I mean, "Me Appeal" seems to dominate our culture. If something doesn't intrigue me, we dismiss it abruptly and move on to the next thing.
This past Sunday, we began a series called Family Issues. There's potential to hear about the "issues" we'll be learning about each week and dismiss coming or engaging in the weeks that lack "Me Appeal." I encourage you to fight against that urge with all your might!
I think I've got a couple solid reasons to stay engaged:
• We're Family – if you come to Believers regularly, we're your church family. Believers is a safe place to grow in your faith and develop your walk with Jesus. Part of that development includes learning about other people in our family.
The Family Issues series is unique in that we were able to conduct a survey to hear from our church family prior to starting it. We asked questions to find out what families have gone through and what they are facing now. Not surprisingly, there's diversity in their stories—they have different backgrounds and perspectives. All aspects help us better understand one another and the richness of the Kingdom of God. Our pastors and teachers will weave those narratives into the messages through the series!
• It's Not About Me – One of Believers' core values is Be Selfless – It's Not About Me. As followers of Jesus, we are called to put others before ourselves. Philippians 2:3b-4 says, “Don’t allow self-promotion to hide in your hearts, but in authentic humility put others first and view others as more important than yourselves. Abandon every display of selfishness. Possess a greater concern for what matters to others instead of your own interests.”
While you might not be in a particular season or situation now, you may face it in the future, or perhaps someone you love has or will. Why not make the most of the opportunity to hear the biblical perspective on these topics so that you can be equipped to love and serve others well?
This Sunday, we'll be learning about singleness. Even as someone who's been married for almost 28 years, I know you won't want to miss this message! Make plans to be here and bring some friends with you.
See ya Sunday,
Heather
