It’s that time of year again—school logos are showing up on t-shirts and bumper stickers, college flags are popping up in yards, and people who never seemed to care about a certain university are suddenly die-hard fans.
Why?
Because their kid just started going there.
And where their kid goes… so goes their heart (and their money).
It’s funny how quickly we grow passionate about something once we’ve made an investment in it. Parents wear the gear, attend the games, and talk about “our team” because they’ve got skin in the game. They’ve sent someone they love—and a good chunk of their savings—off to that school.
That same principle shows up in something Jesus said in Matthew 6:21:
“Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
In other words, your interests follow your investments.
Whether it’s tuition, a retirement account, or the mission of a local church—where you invest, you care.
Are you invested in a local church?
If your first thought when you hear that question is to yawn and say, "pass," there’s a good chance you're not feeling very invested. But if you do show up—if you do lean in—if you do invest in a local church and life-change there—you just might walk away more passionate about what God is doing there. And maybe it will inspire you to invest more of yourself right there and your faith in Jesus will grow because you are investing more in what He is doing.
